Mommy Makeover FAQ
Cost, age, length, recovery, contraindications: answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Here you will find clear, factual answers to frequently asked questions about the Mommy Makeover. For an answer tailored to your situation, only a consultation with Dr Paul Seknadje can provide personalised advice.
There is no single waiting time. The right moment is when the body has regained its balance and the plan to have children is complete.
For the breasts
When the patient has breastfed, it is preferable to wait at least three months after breastfeeding has completely stopped. This delay allows the breast tissue to stabilise and the final volume and shape of the breasts to be assessed more accurately. In the absence of breastfeeding, a procedure can be considered as soon as the body has recovered from childbirth, generally from the return of menstruation after childbirth, that is about one to two months after the birth.
For the abdomen
The abdominal wall continues to reshape itself for several months after a pregnancy. In practice, the waiting times are often as follows:
- after a first pregnancy: about one year, to give the body time to recover on its own;
- after a second pregnancy: a delay of about six months is usually sufficient;
- after a third pregnancy or more: a procedure can be considered from three months, when recovery is satisfactory and the patient no longer plans to have a pregnancy.
Every situation nonetheless remains individual. The quality of the skin, the extent of the diastasis, weight stability, general state of health and plans for future pregnancies are all criteria that guide the decision.
The best moment is not the one dictated by the calendar, but the one when the body has stabilised and the woman is ready to turn the page on her pregnancies.
The cost of a Mommy Makeover depends on the surgical procedures carried out. Each procedure is entirely personalised according to the patient's needs. A detailed quote is always provided at the end of the consultation.
In certain situations, a contribution from French health insurance (Assurance Maladie) may be considered for some procedures when they meet the medical criteria in force. This is notably the case for:
- certain repairs of the abdominal wall when there is a significant abdominal apron after pregnancy, associated with an objectively confirmed diastasis and meeting the reimbursement criteria;
- certain significant breast hypertrophies, when the medical and regulatory criteria are met (planned removal of more than 300 g per breast).
The other procedures carried out as part of a Mommy Makeover most often come under aesthetic surgery and do not benefit from a contribution from French health insurance (Assurance Maladie). A purely aesthetic surgical procedure can no longer be combined with a reconstructive one: in that case, the Mommy Makeover is considered purely aesthetic. During the consultation, a precise clinical examination makes it possible to determine which procedures may potentially qualify for this contribution and to draw up a personalised quote in full transparency.
The surgical plan is defined according to the needs of each patient. The arrangements for administrative cover follow from it, and not the other way round.
